    Hitch cargo carrier

If you have metal already, weather it’s new stock or old salvaged pieces out can create one cheap. If you need to purchase metal, picking up a HF piece to start with, then cutting snd welding to nicely fit your cans would save lots of time and probably be the least expensive way to go.

Need to build something, but what?

That’s a nice sturdy mount. If you were going to take it down often, I would just replace the top bolt with a captured hitch pin , and it would be a bit easier than removing the top bolt to swing the pole down.

I mounted my flag pole with a couple pipe clamps on a heavy flag stand. It’s a lighter weight aluminum pole, so I can lift it out of the stand if needed.

Need to build something, but what?

If you think you want to make it movable, hinge the bottom, so you can remove a pin ( like a trailer hitch pin) lean the pole to the ground, do what’s needed, stand it back up.
  126. Bearskinner

Need to build something, but what?

I vote for the flag pole. Put a slug in the bottom of the pole, and use a piece of the same pipe in the ground. You can slip a bolt in an oversized hole to keep it intact, but also capable to remove for any reason.

    Welding/Chassis Table

Why don’t you mount the vise on a 2” square mount like tow hitch material ( two would be better for stability)with a mounting plate, mounted under the top, so when it’s removed , the top is still unaltered.

    Land Planes for road maintenance

The local metal supply wearhouse sells AR400 and AR500 steel in various widths and thicknesses.once you figure out all your sizes they will cut you some pieces to your dimensions. After years of hard service, there’s no wear on my blades

    Inexpensive MIG or arc welder.

Most of the light duty welders, have a duty cycle, so they would be ok for small projects. Bigger and better is always nice, especially for lots of welding. For lots of little welds short duty cycles won’t hurt a thing. Do lots of reading up on possible problems with some of the less expensive...

Building up thinned automotive sheet metal

You can patch or cover up anything, but really the best repair is to cut the pinhole rusted metal back to where it’s solid and replace it with solid stock. If you use some heavy rosin paper or cardboard, to make a pattern before removal, you can take it to a sheetmetal shop, and they can make...

    Driveway Drag

I looked at and measured angles on quite a few land planes before I fabbed up the one I made. It seems the professionally built ones all had the blades in the 15 degree-18 range. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with tracking, but at 15 degrees, the 3/4” gravel on my road rolls over the top...

    Rebuilding a car hauler trailer

Those old gas pumps are very cool. Would add a great look to the front of the shop. Can’t tell by the picture, but try and keep a 4’-5’ tongue on the trailer so you have lots of sharp turning and backing room so it won’t hit your tow vehicle.

    Never welded before

Most welders have a chart inside the cover, or read the instructions as to speed and heat range. If your not getting penetration, sounds like too cold, or too fast wire feed, and make sure the area is ground clean and grounded well. Practice on some scrap the same thickness first
  240. Bearskinner

Is MIG welding the easiest to learn?

MIG welding is by far the easiest to learn and master. Lift the lid, look at the chart as to metal thickness. It tells you where your settings should be, takes a lot of guess work out of the process. Then just practice, practice

    Rebuilding a car hauler trailer

My brother had a pretty beat up flatbed car hauler trailer. 16’ flatbed, and needed some utility sides, new wood deck, lights, wiring and wheels and tires. Is MIG welding the easiest to learn?

Some of us started with an Oxy/ Acetelyne rig back in the dark ages. Feeding a steel stick, by hand to a heated panel of sheet metal with a flame in the other hand took a bit of finesse. I love the ease of use of an Argon tank on a MIG.
