As a side not my neighbor was pricing some scheme the poco was advocating as saving and we calculate would have taken several years, I forget exact now to break even on the wire cost. Would have taken a lifetime at full skilled labor rates on top of that.

We got engineers on these forums would be interesting to calculate how long or how many operational hours it would take with that machine at 80% output to save 5$ in power if a guy used a number 6 wire,,,, ha

One of the guys on the Miller forum just got a new multi and said it really flies. He was moving, downsizing and also didnt have to upgrade power for some old monster and selling it for some insane price anyway. It was always somewhat a problem when I was a sprout but we got so much better...

I been at this a while. That machine will run dandy from a 10 cable 50 ft long. They list 40 breaker but it should be legal on circuit to 50. Save some jack on the wire and buy another grinder.

There might be instruction sheet with this welder? The electric supply guy is correct, its worth a look in the manual. You would be good at 8 also. The general rule is 5% and you are likely basing this on rated output qhich is rather rare for home/diy/ non outright welding shop production...

Tooliom Welder, And Odd Ways To Provide A Cord to Adapt to 240V

That is not a great idea, it is if you want to burn the joint down but most MVP adapters are special, they are not simply a rewire. The machine is fine on a 120V circuit but without adapter has no protection at 240V. I spose its possible they wired this heavy enough but really doubt it...

I use 11. I have a Maxstar, I like them for restrike, the nature of the work makes the difference irrelevant and 11 has very good mechanical properties. I believe they do list it for some pipe . Just had 50# in good shape given to me, will last me to the end. 10# go a long way these days.

    Show your stick welders

The difference between 10 and 11 is minor. The biggest reason for the part time to use 10 as they can take some from work. Used to be an old joke, buy ac and buy rods, spend another 100 on DC and never got to buy rod again
  20. S

    Show your stick welders

6011 is the sheet rod. For a couple of reasons. While 6013 is talked about real sheet guys use 11 as it freezes fast and is the lowest current. 13 takes a lot of power. It penetrates a little less but uses higher current and freezes slow. But ,,, ,,, if you are doing sheet it's worth getting...

All that great stuff is a liability in the end. I got a lot of shate cause I need it, not that I need everything I got but if I was gonna live out amongst the world would get it down to a science using the least stuff. would narrow my trade so I didnt need every tool they ever invent.

AC or DC for stick welding.

The reason for DC is really all position. DC is used for real work, there used to be a standing joke that a guy buys ac machine and has to buy rod, guy spends another 100 on DC and never has to buy rod. Real construction work uses 6010 and 7018.
  37. S

AC or DC for stick welding.

When I bought the Maxstar I got some small 11 and small 13. Both a waste Used 1 13 and about a dozen 3/32 11 in 15 years. Just dont use them, so used to 1/8 11 that its reflected to reach for it.

AC or DC for stick welding.

Someone mention pros using lots of different rods I kind of think not do much. The amateur gets and tries every rod they make. The pro has a cellulose rod in 1 or 2 sizes, and 7018 in 2 sizes. I can use any of them but really dont. My neighbor just dropped 45# of 1/8 6011 in good shape and...

    Small welders.

Its a rare day I move a mig for field work, the 160 inverter is the best thing they ever invented for that. 1/8 6011, 3/32 7018 and 1/8 7018 if you have 240V

The fact that the incoming wire is 1 size larger is the thermal protection for it. Process to cutting an old propane tank

I believe at the scrap they pump them to recover the liquid. Then send them to the yard to the Mexicans with a torch. Use LP tip and had liquid O2 bottle. Had a yard best here and they cut 100s, 2 or 3 torches a time burning them up.

    Best welder for soft metal?
