I have a question concerning welding on newer vehicles with electronic computer systems. Are there any special precautions you need to know, if you plan on doing any welding on the exhaust/frame without causing damage to the electronics or computer systems??? I wanted to do some minor welding on the exhaust system, but am concerned it may cause damage to electronics. Any information would be greatly appreciated I haven't welded for quite a few years and with all the new vehicle systems didn't want to run into any possible problems. Thanks ahead of time for any assistance you can muster.

It is recommended to disconnect the battery whenever welding on a vehicle, though most I know don't. To protect the ecu, it should be disconnected from the harness.

If you can remove the section needing welding, it would be a lot easier to weld it on a bench than under the vehicle.
