New project and not really a fun one

My poor 2005 Ford Ranger has rust troubles. So I’m see what I can do with it.
what rods would I use. I do have a 75 amp mig welder too. Box rust and a little rust on truck.

Looks mainly like surface rust on the box Noel. Are there any rusted through spots? If so, I would patch using the mig welder for sure.

i would suggest using the mig on a low setting and testing on similar thickness steel first. you'll just be spot welding with it not running full beads or you will get real bad distortion.
best way is to cut out the cancer and replace with a new panels.

Did a little fix up on the truck today. Had to weld in two patches. Found some 3/16 angle in the junk pile and made them. Welded them on, used 6013 rods. That will do for a couple of years.

I have a 98 K1500 that's in dire need of cab repairs. Gonna be a lot of work, but I'm looking forward to getting started and making it look good again. I'm just happy there's still repair panels available... I get started on it I'll probably post as you have.

A little more rust. But I knew it was there. Under the gas vapour thing. Used 6013 rods again. Undercoated the area and replace vapour thing. Truck is ready basically. On to the box next week. That’s not gunna be so easy. Will undercoat the whole frame and box, just before I put the box back on.

Did more work on it today. But results are not good. I have welding troubles.
Any way finally got a patch in. Will see how things go tomorrow.

A bit more done today. I’m gunna try a butt weld. Never did this before. So. Could be nasty.

Some more done. All painted. Now to undercoat the truck then the box. And put it back together.

Truck all back together. Turned out not to bad. That will keep it useable for another few years. Put it to work with a load of wood. Settle the box in. Hehe.
