My good friend Dwight and I built this gantry crane so I can move big items by myself out in the shop. It has an electric winch that's good for over 1,000lbs as well as a backup trolley for heavier items and adjusts from 7'-14' in height.

I needed to pull the engine from my MG one time.
I used a kids swing set as my crane platform and that worked well.
I did shorten the top 'cross bar' just enough to straddle the car.
Worked great!

Nice work! So what have you moved with it?
I used it recently to move my heavy equipment when I moved into my new shop. It came is handy lifting band saws, air compressors, and even my mill & lathe. I've used it also for engine removal & installations.

Great job on the crane. What's even more impressive is the space you have for a shop!! I'd love to build out something like that (the wife, not so much :) )
