Dead horse

I might be beating a dead horse, but I will ask any ways. I have a Hobart Handler 140, and I would like to know if it is possible to use a 25 ft 12/3 extension cord. As of yesterday my garage door broke and I need to do a couple of projects. Your opinions and experience welcomed....thanks!

I Think it might work ok for you, as long as you are welding thin metal at a lower setting. you will find out, breaker will trip. Also try touching the 12/3 cord after welding a bit,should not be too hot.

12/3 is rated to carry 20 amps and that's likely the wire gauge inside the walls. Worst case you might lose the top 5~10% (?) of rated output power, if that is critical.

So long as the extension cord and its connectors aren't too hot, no problem.

I once ran my HF Titanium 125 on over 100 feet of SO extension cord to weld on some fence bracing. It worked fine, so 25 feet of cord that is the same size as feeder wire is nothing.
