Here's a few pictures of a project I just completed. I have an 30 year old Case 580K that has done a lot of snow work and needs some metal attention. The side step has and integral storage compartment that was completely rusted out.
I cut the repair panel out of a head board from an old 1 ton dump truck (1/8" plate with a nice bend). I made a template out of poster board. The triangle in the left side of the template is a crease in the right hand corner to allow access to the attachment bolts. I used white spray paint to mark cut lines.
I also hated the bottom step. It was fine to catch a heal on getting into the machine, but a couple times climbing out my boot slipped through and I hit my shin. I cut a step off an old Zamboni and sandblasted fit and welded that on.
Then I patched some holes in the sides with some 1/8" flat stock
Finally, some epoxy primer and single stage paint and it's ready for install. The top will get some grip tape strips.
