I have several old map/propane tanks. Some of them have a little rust on the threads/seats. They're 1/2 full but I'm concerned about adequate sealing. Is there a way to clean these off safely or should I get rid of them somehow?

My first guess would be use a small brass, not steel, wire brush. (Hand brush, not powered). But research some more before trying this!

For the inside seats, I have rolled up emery cloth and sanded them down for repairing damaged seats with good success. I really dont understand how they could be rusted though since brass doesnt rust. It it is just corrosion, then some brass polish (Brssso) and and old Tee shirt might do the trick.

I'll try that then. I'm pretty sure I have some Brasso in my cabinet. Thanks.
